Poncini is a leading dealer in luxury items like jewellery made in its sister companies and exports to Europe and to the United States. The company also markets fine jewellery on the local market since a package of incentives (Duty free) was given to the industry by the government. A team of 75 workers and collaborators are busy creating and manufacturing high quality products in a modern workshop.   In the watch industry, PONCINI has set up a state-of-the-art centre recognised by the most prestigious brands. A network of high standard shops (17) offering high quality watches for sale are operating around the island. Nevertheless the old colonial style house in Port Louis also hosting the Swiss General Consulate remains the attraction.   PONCINI played an active role in industrial development of the Mauritian economy and was the pioneer in setting up non sugar agricultural enterprises. In 1966 the first export oriented enterprise (drilling of rubies for the watch industry) was launched. This unit became a model for the future free zone activity. In 1970 the first diamond cutting factory started its operations. Ever since PONCINI concentrated its efforts on technology acquisition and expertise in technologies like metallurgy and stone setting. Two sister companies started operating in 1984 and 1994 (Les Ambassadeurs Ltd and General Findings & Wires Ltd.)   By acquiring foreign technology, the group is now equipped with modern and state of the art equipment. The Noël family has been closely involved in the Mauritian sugar industry for nearly two centuries. In the late 1820s, Martial Noël started the Mon Désert sugar factory, which later merged with Alma Sugar Estate, to become Mon Désert Alma Co. Ltd. The other family sugar estate, Savannah, dates back to 1882 and expanded, through a later merger, as part of the ongoing process of centralisation and streamlining in the Mauritian sugar industry. In 1944, a private company, Espitalier Noël Limited, ENL, was founded, in which the main components of the family business, in particular its shareholding in the two sugar estates mentioned above, were brought together. The company started to diversify into other sectors such as commerce, manufacturing and finance, in the late fifties. With the setting up, in 1969, of its investment company, General Investment & Development Co Ltd, GIDC, ENL has developed a wide-ranging and dynamic investment strategy. As a result, it presently holds an attractive portfolio of shares in local blue companies and a substantial stake in prominent business groups such as Rogers, Beachcomber and Food & Allied Industries. Some of the main subsidiaries of ENL, namely Mon Désert Alma Ltd, Savannah Sugar Estate Co Ltd and GIDC were among the first companies to be listed on the Stock Exchange of Mauritius in 1989. ENL has remained at the forefront of the evolution in the economic, social, business and legal environment in Mauritius, in particular the diversification of the economy into non-sugar activities. 19 Years of history Founded in 1987, A&W Wong & Co was launched with three people at Pailles with a seed capital of Rs 200,000. Over the years, A&W Group has grown to be a medium size group of companies. Keeping pace with our growth, we moved from Pailles to Coromandel in 1990, then went on to build our Headquarters in La Tour Koenig Industrial Estate in 1999.
